My husband has a Catholic friend that has been watching 3 ABN, and he wants to know something about Ellen G. White. I was wondering if you have a book about her that is suitable for non Adventists, explaining how she came to be a prophet, etc.
Please respond to this, if possible, as we would like to order something along that line. Ph. # 507-374-6747, if you should need to call, otherwise responding to the email is fine with me. Thank you very much. ___________
Dear Sister ___________,
Thank you for contacting the Ellen G. White Estate. I was pleased to learn of the interest of this Catholic friend. I hope his interest will grow.
Oddly enough, there doesn't seem to be very much literature available along the lines you have asked for, at least not from the regular church publishing houses. The only brief book that I can think of, written specifically for the non-Adventist, is Roger Coon's book "A Gift of Light." Let me suggest that you get a copy for yourself and read it to see whether you think it is what you are looking for. Another good resource is the video "Meet Ellen White." The first part covers her prophetic ministry--the second part, Ellen White as a person. This is a video made from the "Keepers of the Flame" series, narrated by the Australian, Allan Lindsay. In fact, it may be that your husband's friend has seen some of this material on 3ABN, and this is what has piqued his interest.
Two other resources you might want to look at on our website are the "brief biography" of Mrs. White (from the homepage, click "Who Was Ellen G. White" on the menu at the left) and the book "Messenger of the Lord" (click "Online Books" and scroll to the bottom for the link to this book). The book itself is nearly 600 pages long, so you'll need to look to see what might be the most helpful just now. If certain portions meet the needs and questions of your friend, you can copy them off the website. The book itself is probably too big and imposing to just hand to him.
One other possible source of good materials are our evangelistic media programs: It Is Written, The Voice of Prophecy, and Amazing Facts, to name three. They may well have some printed materials prepared specifically for their ministries which will zero in on what you need done. I think that one of the Amazing Facts folders or Bible lessons is on the topic of the prophetic gift in the last days, examined principally from Scripture.
I hope that this is helpful. Let me know if I can be of further service. May the Lord bless your outreach to your Catholic brother.
