The activities on the fairgrounds came to be of special interest to the teenage boys. W. C. White later recalled:
There was anxiety in every home in Battle Creek. Would the dread disease strike and lay low some of the precious children?
When our prayers seem not to be answered, we are to cling to the promise; for the time of answering will surely come, and we shall receive the blessing we need most. (SC 96)
